It’s Bluegrass Week at the Augusta Heritage Center of Davis & Elkins College. Checkout this jam packed schedule of events that are open to the community.
Sunday-Friday, July 26-31
Nightly: Bluegrass jam sessions, Madden Student Center, Halliehurst porch and other locations throughout campus.
Monday, July 27
7:30 p.m.: Lecture, “Josh Graves: Bluegrass Bluesman” by Fred Bartenstein, Eshleman Science Center 400. Free.
9-10:30 p.m.: Film screening, “Early Bluegrass Clips with Ira Gitlin,” Madden Student Center. Free. Vintage Restaurant will have pizza and beverages available for purchase.
Tuesday, July 28
4-6:30 p.m.: Show and Sell: Instruments, crafts, recordings and more for sale by students and staff, Halliehurst porch. Free.
6:30-7:30 p.m.: Book signing by author and editor Fred Bartenstein, Myles Center for the Arts. Free.
7:30 p.m.: Bluegrass Concert, “Masters of Bluegrass Fiddle” with Byron Berline, and Darol Anger and Friends, (doors open 7 p.m.), Myles Center for the Arts Harper-McNeeley Auditorium. Admission is $12 and $6 for students.
After concert: Square Dance with Patrick McAvine and the Bluegrass Staff Inflections with caller Becky Hill, outdoor Augusta Dance Pavilion, admission included in concert ticket.
Wednesday, July 29
6-10 p.m.: Pickin’ in the Park local old-time, bluegrass and country jam sessions, Elkins City Park. Free.
Thursday, July 30
6-7:15 p.m.: Craft Student Reception featuring exhibits and demonstrations by the arts, craft and folklore classes, The Joni and Buck Smith Arts Forum, Myles Center for the Arts. Light refreshments available. Free.
7:30 p.m.: Bluegrass Concert (doors open 7 p.m.), Myles Center for the Arts Harper-McNeeley Auditorium, silent auction ends at intermission. Admission is $12 and $6 for students.
After concert: Square Dance with The Bluegrass Staff Inflections and caller Mary Alice Milnes, outdoor Augusta Dance Pavilion, admission included in concert ticket.
Friday, July 31
8 p.m.: Square Dance with Darol Anger, Joe Walsh and Bluegrass Staff Inflections with callers Ellen and Eugene Ratcliffe, outdoor Augusta Dance Pavilion. Admission is $6 and $4 for students.
