Irish Week 2016 at the Augusta Heritage Center

Andrew Carroll
June 14, 2016

Join us for the 35th annual Irish Week! Founded in 1982 by Dr. Mick Moloney, Augusta Heritage Center’s Irish Week is the oldest week of its kind in the United States. Since it began, Irish Week has consistently attracted the world’s finest instructors to immerse students in the very best of Irish music, dance, craft and folklore. Classes meet from 10-11:45 a.m. and 2:30-4:15 p.m. daily. Everyone gathers after lunch for a cultural session on Irish music and folkways. Then we round out the day with tune sessions, song circles, ceili and set dances and concerts.

“Irish Week will be tremendous in 2016! Our amazing staff will include some familiar faces, like Billy McComiskey, who will be back to handle the button accordion and ceili band duties, and Padraig MacEneany, who will again teach set & ceili dancing. There’ll be lots of new faces as well, including MacDara Ó Raghallaigh (fiddle), Nuala Kennedy (singing), and Desi Wilkenson (flute), all of whom will be over from Ireland! If that weren’t enough, we’ll get a visit from Sliabh Luchara legends Matt Cranitch and Jackie Daly who will spend a day as guest master artists! The craic will be mighty, so please join us for this great, intimate, family oriented week that celebrates the best in Irish music and culture – see you there! – Daniel Neely, Coordinator
