Figure Sculpting with Andy Thorne Andrew Carroll June 14, 2016 Andy Thorne will teach Figure Sculpting during Week 3, Irish Week, running July 19-24, 2015. This course introduces different types of modeling clay and the sculpting of the human form. Designed for students with little to no experience in the medium, this course will cover how to sculpt busts, how to sculpt the human form and how to construct armatures while using both water-based clay and oil-based clay. Students should bring a towel and clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty. Minimum age: 13. Materials: $50 for tools and clay. As a sculptor living and working in Buckhannon, West Virginia , Thorne’s art portrays the strength of Appalachian people. Using traditional methods, Thorne creates sculpture that is mainly figurative in nature. The ease and freedom of clay quickly allows him to lay out his ideas into a 3D form. He enjoys sharing and teaching willing students how to work in this great medium.
