She grew up baking pies, cakes and cookies with her mother and grandmother and is known for having the most delicious cakes at square dance cake walks throughout the region. Dana said, “Growing up we had our own milk and butter, the only thing we bought were flour, vanilla and sugar from traveling salesmen.” In the Appalachian Baking from Scratch Mini-Course, instructor Dana Keplinger will teach old family recipes that she has refined to perfection. All recipes involve real ingredients. Recipes will include pineapple carrot cake, chocolate cake, old-fashioned rolled sugar cookies and pumpkin spice drop cookies. This mini-course will be held during October Old-Time Week, October 19-22 from 6-7:15pm each evening. Tuition is $55. A materials fee of $15 cover the cost of ingredients.
